WHAT IS A COLONOSCOPY, AND WHY DO WE DO IT?


WHAT?

A Colonoscopy is a procedure that uses a lighted flexible endoscope to examine the large intestine. 

WHY?

The Colonoscope is used to help determine the cause of :
  • Abdominal pain
  • Blood in the stool
  • Changes in bowel habits
  • Mucous in the stool
  • Screening and surveillance for colorectal cancer 

Problems detected may include:
  • Colon Cancer
  • Colon polyps 
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Ulcerative 
  • Colitis
  • Diverticulosis
